World Heavyweight Champion Batista def. Eddie Guerrero
atch against World Heavyweight Champion Batista, but he never did.
The challenger was seen several times wrestling with his morals in the ring. On two separate occasions, Guerrero had an opportunity to smash Batista with a steel chair. Guerrero, however, opted not to go that route.
Intent on winning the World Heavyweight Championship legitimately, Guerrero landed an amazing Three Amigos on Batista. He then went to the top for a Frog Splash, but Batista was able to roll out of the way. Batista followed the missed Frog Splash with a Spinebuster, which finished off the challenger.
After the match, Guerrero extended his hand to the victorious Batista. The two then shook hands in the center of the ring. After the sign of respect, Batista turned to walk away. With Batista’s back to Guerrero, Eddie’s face showed a devious smile. The smile quickly went away when Batista turned around to look at Guerrero.
Bob and Randy Orton def. Undertaker
Cowboy Bob Orton & Randy Orton def. Undertaker (Handicap Casket Match)
October 9, 2005
Not being in great ring shape, Cowboy Bob Orton had to use his conniving wit as his greatest asset in this Handicap Casket Match that pit him and his son Randy against the legendary Undertaker.
At one point in the match, the Deadman knocked Cowboy Bob into the casket while the Hall of Famer was holding a fire extinguisher. The fire extinguisher proved to play a huge part of the outcome.
With Cowboy Bob still in the casket, Randy and Undertaker continued their battle in the ring. Eventually, Undertaker hit his Last Ride Powerbomb onto the younger Orton. As the Deadman lifted the casket, however, Cowboy Bob sprayed him with the contents of the fire extinguisher, temporarily blinding him. Randy then nailed Undertaker with a steel chair, as the Deadman finally found himself at the bottom of the casket.
The Ortons quickly closed the casket, signifying the end of Undertaker. After the match, Bob and Randy locked the casket, covered it in gasoline and set it on fire.
This was clearly a horrible sight to see for those in attendance and watching live on pay-per-view. But what happened when the fire went out was plain shocking. Insistent on seeing their handy work, the Ortons opened the charred casket, only to find out that the Undertaker was no longer inside.
United States Champion Chris Benoit def. Booker T, Orlando Jordan and Christian
The rules of the United States Championship Match at No Mercy clearly did not favor Chris Benoit. The first person to score a fall would be declared the winner, meaning Benoit did not need to be involved in the decision to lose the championship.
With the odds stacked against him, Benoit looked to finish the match early. He managed to lock Orlando Jordan in the Crippler Crossface, but Christian was able to make the save.
Benoit then focused his attention on Christian, eventually applying the Sharpshooter. But Jordan returned the earlier favor and made the save.
The furious action found its way outside the ring for Booker T and Orlando. With two of the three challengers on the outside, Benoit was able to hit three German Suplexes on Christian. The United States Champion followed with a Sharpshooter. With nobody there to make the save, Christian was forced to submit.
JBL def. Rey Mysterio
Rey Mysterio utilized his speed to gain the early advantage on the powerful JBL, focusing much of his attention on the big man’s knees in an attempt to level him.
JBL, however, eventually caught Rey on the top rope. The former WWE Champion then hit the smaller Mysterio with a Fall Away Slam from the top, followed by another. JBL then sent Mysterio to the outside where he hit him with yet another Fall Away Slam. Back on the inside, JBL went for the cover, but Rey kicked out just before the ref was able to hit the three count.
A recovering Mysterio was able to muster enough energy to hit an unsuspecting JBL with a devastating Tornado DDT. Mysterio’s speed once again propelled him on to the offensive, as he landed a Bronco Buster on JBL in the corner.
The capacity crowd in Houston then jumped to its feet as Rey hit JBL with a moonsault, followed by a 619. Mysterio then looked to finish off his larger opponent with the West Coast Pop, but missed. The miss proved to be costly, as JBL then hit Mysterio with a Clothesline From Hell to finish him off.
L.O.D. & Christy Hemme def. MNM
Johnny Nitro couldn’t even get out of his full-length fur coat before Heidernreich went on the offensive in this six-person tag team match pitting WWE Tag Team Champions L.O.D & Christy against MNM.
Luckily for MNM, Mercury was able to find his way into the ring and focus on Road Warrior Animal’s injured left shoulder. With Animal down, Melina took to the top rope and launched herself from the turnbuckle. The high-risk maneuver, however, proved to be costly, as the powerful Animal caught to flying Melina.
The feisty Christy was then tagged in. Animal held Melina up while his tag team partner hit a clothesline, a la the Hart Foundation. Animal then helped up the fallen Melina while Christy hit the Doomsday Device, which was followed by the 1-2-3
Ken Kennedy def. Hardcore Holly
Ken Kennedy was very impressive in his WWE pay-per-view debut against Hardcore Holly at No Mercy.
The SmackDown newcomer immediately focused his attention on Holly’s shoulder, even sending him shoulder first into the steel ring post.
Back on the inside, Holly fought his way back, hitting a heavy full-nelson slam. But Holly’s injured shoulder was too much to overcome. Kennedy soon landed the inverted rolling senton for the win.
After the match, Holly refused medical attention in the ring. Before he could make his way to the back, Holly was met with a cruel attack by Sylvan.
Bobby Lashley def. Simon Dean
Before the match, a cocky Simon Dean promised to eat 20 double cheeseburgers if he was not victorious.
The new SmackDown heavy-hitter Bobby Lashley jumped out to the early advantage, utilizing his awesome power. Dean, however, created an opening when he distracted the referee. The fitness guru then nailed Lashley with the metal platter which was holding the 20 cheeseburgers. The illegal move had no effect on the newcomer.
Lashley then dropped Simon Dean with a devastating Dominator, which was followed by the 1-2-3. After the match, Lashley shoved the first of 20 double cheeseburgers down Dean’s throat.
Juventud def. Nunzio (new Cruiserweight Champion)
The Mexicools continued their cruiserweight dominance at No Mercy when Juventud was able to capture the Cruiserweight Championship from Nunzio.
After the champ was laid out by the Juvi Driver, Super Crazy and Psicosis protected the ring so as not to allow Vito to break up the action. A three count later, the Mexicools had their first piece of gold to decorate their Juan Deeres with.
