The Great American Bash 2004 wwe

He battled the Dudleys for control of his destiny -- then the Deadman sealed Paul Bearer's fate.

The Undertaker was deeply conflicted during his a one-of-a-kind Handicap Match on Sunday against the WWE Tag Team Champions. His instincts told him to battle for his survival. Paul Heyman told him to take defeat (and a beating) for Paul Bearer's safety. And despite the most diabolical distraction of his entire career, ultimately the Phenom prevailed at The Great American Bash.

But what followed not only shocked the Norfolk, Va., crowd, it shocked Heyman and Bearer as well: The Undertaker dropped to one knee, paid his final respects to his longtime confident and then pulled the cement truck lever himself.

After uttering the words, "Rest in peace," the Deadman watched cement flow up Bearer's neck, then above his head, entombing him inside the Concrete Crypt. It was an ending to both Bearer and the pay-per-view that couldn't have been anticipated.
