Usage of Internet is growing and so is the usage of e-mail [Electronic mail],
once sparingly used but nowadays it is used professionally and indeed seen as
one of our identity.
Don't be shocked or fooled when your mail inbox shows 500 mb free space, in
spite of having 50 or more mails, the reason is revolution by google with the
introduction of G-mail.
Free e-mail providers like [yahoo.com, rediffmail.com, hotmail.com,
burntmail.com,etc]
were giving mail space in the range of 4-10 mb, inspite of local competition for
mail providers no one dared to increase the space limit for e-mail and the users
has to be content with alloted space. so people still used e-mail only for
emergency purpose but could never use it for sending large sized multimedia
files or like game files.
But what has happened in the last 1 month is that all the mail providers
increasedthe size to 100 times [For instance yahoo raised its size to 250-500
mb, rediffmail increased it size to 1 GB, hotmail increased its size to 500 mb]
what they were provided but still fear whether they will lose their existing
memebers and may increase the size futher to stay in the market.
Q:How & why it is all happening ?
A: G-mail
Google had a long time dream of providing a dream e-mail inbox of 1GB size to
its viewers, all said before and now its started, eventhough still in demo
process and not everyone can apply , it has already created shockwaves and
sleepless among other mail providers. It is Google the leading search engine
company among the world highly responsible for this mail revolution, the concept
is excellent[it is like sharing the reseoruces, so that even small mail
providing company can take part in it.
It has to been seen whether G-mail will be successfull in a long run, but what
it has already done is increase the mail inbox size of everyone irrespective of
what ever website they hold.
Another problem G-mail has created is for paid mail box, if google can provide 1
GB of free mail then for a mail providing company to attract customers for paid
mail service how much should they offer and even if they offer can they atleast
hold on to their exisiting customers is a question mark? , and if they still
feel they can hold on and offer exclusive things like how much will they charge,
can they do a big change for a small sum?
Free mail providers can breath for some more time as the G-mail service is into
the market only in the demo phase as of now and it seems google as a lot of
things to sort out [as they encounter some database , space and other minor
problems], but one thing is for sure internet users are witnessing a revolution
and thanks to Google service for creating it.
Salute google group for the revolution.
