Never liked soccer much, but I have been seeing soccer just for watching England in action, eventhough Iam from the Asian origin I loved to watch England in action eventhough they dont taste much victories.
This time the English played like the champs through out the tournament but still out of it with bad luck.
To start with Rooney got injured in the crucial quater finals against host Portugal but still leading in the half way with Micheal Owen brilliance. When the match was neturalized by the host England still made a remarkable goal at the dieing moments only to be turned out by the referee [in the name of offending keeper].
In the penalty shootout it was very sad to see Beckham missing one ,which indirectly seeled the fate of the team.

I just wonder how the English fans took disappointment, as it is not even possible for as Non-English native like me to handle it. Anyhow guys the team played superb and the victory is not the only thing and playing with spirit alone counts & our team scored full points in it.

Anyhow guys tommorrow never dies and there is always another tournament & Iam waiting for it.

Played like champions?????????? Are you serious?!?!?!?!?

They touched the football about 6 times the whole game!

And that totally was a correct call when Ricardo was fouled by Terry. You don't score by putting your arm on the goalie.

...and it was MARVELOUS to see Beckham missing that penalty. Maybe now the world will start to realize that Beckham is a washup. $10 says he won't even make the World Cup squad.

ENGLAND SUCKS! Portugal all the way "home"...

Champions don't put penalty kicks over the crossbar

(Just ask Sweden's Ibrahimovic, if Beckham's miss wasn't enough proof)

I've only just come across this thread, wow where to start. Nice article Mr Boo, gladto see England inspired you! First off I'll start off by saying Portugal deserved to win that game they were the better team on the night, having said that, they are no where near good enough to win the championship and they will be lucky to make it through the semi's. They rely far to much on Ronaldo, who is a great play, but like Rooney they both have a lony way to go before they are classed as world class players, in my humble opinion anyway.

Played like champions?????????? Are you serious?!?!?!?!?

England as a team are not a world class act, I'll admit that, but in this championship they played some class football, and overall they deserved to go alot further, we played our hearts out in that game, and we should of got a better result.

They touched the football about 6 times the whole game!

When the boy Rooney got sent off it was a psychological disadvantage for them, they thought they had no other scoring opportunity, which of course isn't true, so they sat back and defended, which of course is not what England are known for, so it looked like they didn't do much, but they worked damn hard not to let them score, and they may not have produced amazing football, but they stayed tight at the back, and kept working at it

And that totally was a correct call when Ricardo was fouled by Terry. You don't score by putting your arm on the goalie.

If you watch that goal a few times, you will see the goalie falls AFTER the ball has gone in the net, He thought I've got no chance of getting that so I'll drop like a sack of potatoes. Plus the linesman had it as a goal, it was the ref, who was miles off who disallowed it. That was definatly a goal, Campbell jumped all over Terry, not Ricardo.

it was MARVELOUS to see Beckham missing that penalty. Maybe now the world will start to realize that Beckham is a washup. $10 says he won't even make the World Cup squad.

Why is it everyone jumps at the first opportunity to slate Beckham. He is not a washup, he is a class player, not as good as he is made out to be, granted, but he is a class player. He does the job of captain fabulously as well. He did nothing in that tournament? he produced no fabulous football, but he never gave up, he encourages those around him, he worked harder than anyone on that field, and it did get result. He will be captain, Sven knows there are great things to come out of Beckham, and he appreciates just what he does as Captain. Just out of curiousity, who would be his replacement as captain in your opinion?

Completely agreed with Sally, BecKham is not an ordinary player but may not be as good a player like he is hyped.
As for England is concerned they deserved to go further on the tournament but unfortunately it wasnt the case.

Thanks for the appreciation Sally.
I do felt that English played better in the tournament than expected by the fans.
